A heart-wrenching incident took place in Cardiff where a woman bravely fought to save her beloved pet from a brutal dog attack, leaving the pet covered in blood. Skye, an 11-year-old Border Collie, was being walked by her owner when the attack occurred. Sue Smith, the dog’s owner, believes her pet would have been killed if not for the intervention of passers-by.
The attack happened as Mrs Smith was walking Skye around 2.30pm on a Friday afternoon in Cardiff. They had taken a different route to avoid broken glass in a subway and were on Bryn Celyn towards Llanishen reservoir when the attack occurred. Mrs Smith described how a French Bulldog-style dog appeared without a collar, followed by a Staffy-type dog that suddenly attacked Skye. She recounted kicking and screaming to try to save Skye, who was crying and screaming as the attacking dog wouldn’t let go.
Fortunately, a kind man passing by came to their aid, prising the attacking dog’s jaws away from Skye. The couple then helped Mrs Smith and Skye to the vets, where Skye was immediately treated for her injuries. The pet had to undergo surgery due to the severity of the wounds, including tears, dead skin, and puncture wounds. Skye now has drains in her wounds and will require further care to recover.
The emotional Mrs Smith expressed her devastation over the incident, highlighting Skye’s gentle nature and the fear that the trauma may affect her long-term. She emphasised the importance of valuing and protecting animals, noting that the outcome could have been much worse. The incident has been reported to the police, and Mrs Smith is now waiting for further action to be taken.
This heart-wrenching story serves as a reminder of the bond between humans and animals, and the importance of standing up against violence, even in the most unexpected situations. It is a testament to the power of compassion and quick thinking in the face of adversity, ultimately saving Skye’s life and giving hope for her recovery.
