Woman thought she was going to die while being strangled by ex

A woman in Wales went through a terrifying ordeal when her ex-partner, Callum Jeffs, violently attacked her in her own home. The incident, which took place on July 9, left the victim fearing for her life as Jeffs chased her with a kitchen knife and strangled her multiple times. The harrowing attack unfolded with Jeffs accusing the woman of being unfaithful before physically assaulting her.

During a sentencing hearing at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, it was revealed that Jeffs had entered the victim’s home without permission and proceeded to verbally and physically abuse her. He spat on her, choked her, kicked her, and even threatened her with a kitchen knife, stating that he was going to kill her. The victim described feeling like she was going to die during the relentless assault.

The court heard that Jeffs had a history of violence, with 11 previous convictions, some of which were against the same victim. Despite initially denying the charges, he later pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation, assault causing actual bodily harm, threatening with a blade, and criminal damage. His violent actions were condemned by the judge, who emphasised the seriousness of such offences against women.

In a victim impact statement read in court, the woman described the lasting emotional trauma caused by the attack. She shared how the incident had changed her behaviour, leading to anxiety and isolation, and expressed her fear of Jeffs even while he was in prison. Jeffs was ultimately sentenced to 25 months in prison, with the judge highlighting the need for a custodial sentence for such behaviours.
