A woman out walking her dog in the Swansea valleys in Wales was attacked by bloodhounds belonging to Banwen Miners’ Bloodhounds. Emily Spencer and her spaniel Piper were on a walk in Alltwen when the incident occurred. Ms. Spencer ended up in the hospital with serious injuries after being bitten multiple times, while Piper also sustained significant wounds.
This is not the first time someone has been attacked by hounds from this group, as another individual had a similar encounter last year. The group acknowledged the incident and expressed willingness to speak with Ms. Spencer further. They also mentioned that some dogs had been put down in response to the latest incident.
Describing the attack, Ms. Spencer recalled encountering a hunting party with horses and bloodhounds on the road. When two of the dogs broke off and attacked her and Piper, she tried to protect her dog by putting herself between them. The situation escalated, leading to injuries for both Ms. Spencer and Piper, who required extensive treatment.
The Banwen Miners’ Bloodhounds group responded by stating they did not perceive any issue during the incident and were surprised by the severity of the injuries. They expressed a desire to contact Ms. Spencer for further investigation. Ms. Spencer emphasised the need to raise awareness about the incident and criticised the group for their lack of responsibility in training and caring for their animals.
The group, which has a history dating back nearly 60 years, aims to preserve their hunting traditions. However, the recent events have raised concerns about their ability to prevent such attacks in the future. Ms. Spencer highlighted the impact of the incident on both herself and Piper, calling attention to the need for accountability.
The incident has sparked a conversation about dog attacks and responsible pet ownership, prompting a reevaluation of safety measures during hunting activities. As Ms. Spencer and Piper continue to recover from their injuries, the community awaits further developments regarding the incident and the actions taken by the Banwen Miners’ Bloodhounds group to address the situation.
