We know that after today we only have one team is left who can claim the title of Grand Slam if they win their next game but who else is in with a chance? We are not bias… maybe a little… we think you all know who we are hoping for.
Wales
With just France (in Paris) left to play.
A ‘simple’ win in Paris would render everything else is irrelevant because they would be crowned Grand Slam champions.
Even if a win isn’t on the cards that day a draw would be enough to nab the title popping them at 21 points meaning no one would be able to catch them.
However loosing next week is not the ‘end all’ just yet, but then the championship points become very important.
France
They have Wales & Scotland still to play both in the Stade de France.
France are behind Wales by nine points. Meaning they have to come out of next weeks match with a minimum of four more Championship points than Wales.
If France only win by seven points or less and fail to get a bonus point, Wales will still be crowned champions unless Scotland win all their remaining matches with bonus points in each game.
But if France beat Wales with that all important bonus point, they still have to beat Scotland (who had to postpone their game due to covi-19 see here) next week.
stay with us…
If France beat Wales but don’t manage to claim that all important bonus point, they have to beat Scotland with a bonus point. This would draw them level with Wales and the championship would be decided on a points difference what ever that might be by then.
Any sort of bonus point for Wales against France means they can only lose the title on points difference.
Wales are currently 24 points better off than France so it’s looking good for Pivac’s men but France are famous for their upsets in the table , especially at home.
Scotland
With three games left to play they are only half way through their campaign with Ireland (Home), Italy (Home), France (Away) in front of them, this is what they have to do to get that cup!
The equation for Scotland is pretty straightforward.
Scotland is behind Wales by 14 championship points. So three bonus point wins in their final matches crowns them the champs.
However they would also need France to beat Wales and for Wales to not get anything from the match. If that happens we will watch Scotland lift the 6 nations cup for the first time,
