Lewis Enos, a 34-year-old man from Newport, has been sentenced to nearly a year in jail for a shocking incident involving a piece of wood that police officers mistook for a genuine firearm. The events unfolded in the early hours of October 23 last year when officers were called out to speak to Enos. Upon approaching him, he pointed the wooden object at the officers and threatened to shoot them, leading them to believe he was armed.
During a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, Judge Paul Hobson expressed his concern over the gravity of Enos’s actions, stating, “You intended them to believe you had a firearm.” Despite the initial officers withdrawing from the scene, Enos continued to pose a threat when further police officers engaged with him, causing distress and fear among the law enforcement personnel.
Enos, residing at Coulson Close, pleaded guilty to three counts of assaulting emergency workers. The court learned that he had a history of previous convictions, including battery, harassment, and assault against emergency workers. In response to his actions, Judge Hobson handed down a sentence of 51 weeks imprisonment, with Enos required to serve half the term in custody before being released on licence for the remainder.
