A Welsh rugby club faced a potential disaster as heavy rainfall caused the pitch at Risca RFC to be completely submerged in water. The flood also posed a threat to the club’s leisure centre, which houses a 3G pitch that had recently been re-installed after being flooded in Storm Bert last year. Throughout the night, a small team of volunteers associated with the rugby club worked tirelessly to remove the water from the pitch and surrounding areas. Using a newly purchased pump, they managed to pump 10,000 litres of water back into the Ebbw River as they fought against time to save the club’s facilities.
