The White Hart Inn in St Dogmaels, a 250-year-old pub, is making moves to expand its operations after being named one of the friendliest pubs in the UK. According to a study conducted by security experts Get Licensed, The White Hart Inn was ranked as the second friendliest pub in the UK based on Tripadvisor reviews and crime scores in the surrounding area. This recognition comes after the establishment reopened its doors in 2021 as a community pub following a brief closure in 2019.

The journey to revitalise The White Hart Inn began with the formation of the White Hart Community Inn Ltd, a Community Benefit Society, which launched a community share offer in collaboration with the Wales Co-operative Centre. Over the course of two years, the community rallied together, purchasing individual shares and receiving support from various sources, including a grant from Pembrokeshire County Council and financial backing from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.

Now, the White Hart Community Inn (St Dogmaels) Ltd is seeking approval from Pembrokeshire County Council to expand the pub’s licensed premises by repurposing the former manager’s accommodation, which has been vacant since early 2022. This expansion plan is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance the pub’s offerings and accommodate more patrons. The council will review this application in the near future, alongside a previously approved proposal to install solar panels at the historic pub.

Receiving a top score of five on Tripadvisor and with 66.67% of reviews highlighting its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, The White Hart Inn has cemented its reputation as a beloved community hub. The pub’s dedication to creating a safe and welcoming environment is further underscored by the low median crime score of 609 out of 1,000 in the local area, with only 39 reported crimes in 2024.

The support from the community and the recognition by Get Licensed have propelled The White Hart Inn towards further growth and development. The pub’s commitment to fostering a warm and inclusive atmosphere has resonated with visitors and locals alike, making it a standout destination in St Dogmaels. The upcoming decision on the expansion plans will mark a new chapter in the pub’s storied history, allowing it to cater to a broader audience while maintaining its reputation as one of the friendliest pubs in the country.
