Heavy rain showers are set to fall in areas across Wales on Monday as Met Office weather maps have revealed the areas which are set to be worst affected. The forecasting agency has a yellow weather warning in place for the country and has warned it is set to be a cloudy and wet day with outbreaks of rain for many. The rainfall is expected to be heavy and persistent at times and this is particularly the case in the southeast. We have taken a look at the Met Office weather maps to see where will be hit the most and how much rainfall is predicted to fall on Monday, September 23. Rain will be at its heaviest around Merthyr Tydfil, Pontypridd, Cardiff, and Llantwit Major, seeing 4-8mm rainfall an hour. By lunchtime, the worst-affected areas will still remain the same but downpours will have become lighter with parts of Llantwit Major and Merthyr Tydfil still experiencing 4-8mm rainfall an hour. By 2pm, it will be largely 2-4mm rainfall an hour. During the school run, areas of Newport and Chepstow look to be worst affected with 4-8mm rainfall an hour.
As 5pm arrives, areas of west Wales will start to experience outbreaks of lighter rain while areas to the north will also experience rainfall of 0.5-1mm an hour. By 7pm, large sections of the country will experience lighter rainfall of 0.5-1mm an hour. Monmouth and Abergavenny will be the worst affected areas at 9pm experiencing downpours of 0.5-1mm an hour. The situation will remain the same at 11pm with the rain mainly around Monmouth while an area of Caernarfon will also be affected. At midnight, lighter rain will affect some areas.

By lunchtime, the downpours will have become lighter, but areas like Newport and Chepstow will still see heavy rainfall. As the evening progresses, west Wales will start to experience lighter rain, while areas in the north will still see some precipitation. By 7pm, most areas will only experience light rainfall, with Monmouth and Abergavenny being the worst affected at 9pm. The situation is expected to improve by midnight.
