A war hero who earned the UK’s second-highest bravery medal by single-handedly fighting off insurgents had his hopes of opening a Cardiff nightclub dashed. However, Dip Prasad Pun, who saved three comrades while guarding a compound in Afghanistan, is not giving up. Dip’s heroic act took place over 14 years ago in Hellmand Province, Afghanistan. While on sentry duty at night, he found himself surrounded by what he believed to be 30 enemy insurgents. Despite the odds, he fought valiantly, barely surviving with just four bullets left at the end.
After serving for 22 years in the army, Dip retired in 2022 and set his sights on opening a restaurant and nightclub in Cardiff. Although his nightclub application was rejected due to the high crime rate in the area, Dip remains determined. His new plan focuses on the restaurant first, with hopes of incorporating live music in the future. Dip’s vision is to introduce a Nepalese restaurant to Cardiff, as there is currently none in the city.
Reflecting on his journey so far, Dip acknowledges the setbacks faced during the application process but remains optimistic about his plans. While his initial nightclub dream may have been put on hold, Dip is determined to realise his vision one step at a time. With his unwavering resilience and commitment to his goals, Dip Prasad Pun continues to inspire those around him with his remarkable bravery and determination.
