Turkish Entrepreneurs Behind Longa Restaurant Expand Business in Cardiff
In recent news, a Turkish restaurant run by three women in Cardiff has seen significant growth with the opening of a new venue in the city centre. Longa, founded in 2019 by sisters Gizem Yorgun and Simge Yalcin, has now expanded with actress Pinar Ogun joining the business in 2023. The trio at the helm of Longa aim to showcase the diverse and rich flavours of Turkish cuisine to the people of Cardiff. The first Longa restaurant, located in the Whitchurch area, has been a success since its opening in 2019, prompting the expansion of their culinary venture.
The new Longa establishment, situated at Park Place, offers space for 100 covers and features an all-day breakfast menu. Additionally, the restaurant caters to an evening clientele with a separate menu, providing a comprehensive dining experience for customers. The expansion of Longa was made possible through a £120,000 finance package provided by BCRS Business Loans, utilising the British Business Bank’s Investment Fund for Wales and Community Investment Enterprise Fund managed by Social Investment Scotland.
Simge Yalcin, one of the founding members of Longa, expressed the team’s excitement for the new venture at Park Place, highlighting the challenges they faced in securing the perfect premises and the necessary financial support to bring their vision to life. Niki Haggerty-James, business development manager at BCRS, played a vital role in facilitating the debt finance for Longa, acknowledging the determination and passion of the trio in realising their restaurant dream.
Pinar Ogun, the newest addition to the Longa team, emphasised the positive impact their Park Place restaurant has already had on the community, with weekends seeing a high volume of bookings and satisfied customers enjoying their authentic Turkish dishes. The supportive partnership with BCRS extends beyond financial assistance, with Niki providing ongoing encouragement and guidance to Longa in their culinary journey.
BCRS recognises the unique position of Longa as a business led by women and individuals from diverse ethnic backgrounds, showcasing a commitment to supporting and championing entrepreneurial ventures that contribute to the economic and social fabric of Wales. Bethan Bannister, senior investment manager at the British Business Bank, commended Longa’s dedication to growth and success, underscoring the importance of nurturing female-led businesses like Longa within the local community.
As Longa continues to make its mark on the Cardiff food scene, patrons can expect an authentic taste of Turkish cuisine crafted with passion and dedication by the talented trio behind the restaurant. The investment and support from BCRS and the British Business Bank highlight the collaborative efforts to foster entrepreneurship and innovation in Wales, ensuring Longa’s continued success and growth in the competitive restaurant industry.
