A woman has shared her distressing experience during a holiday with TUI, alleging that a bedbug crawled into her friend’s ear during a trip to Majorca. Selina Dalglish, from Salford, described how her dream birthday celebration turned into a nightmare when they discovered what they believed to be bedbugs in their beds at the Sol Katmandu Park and Resort in Magaluf. Moreover, they claimed to have found bloodstains on their sheets from crushed bugs, adding to their ordeal.
After alerting the hotel staff about the infestation, Selina and her friend took measures to rid themselves of the pests, including washing all their clothes and freezing their shoes for a day. The pair, who had departed from Manchester Airport, initially thought everything was perfect until they encountered the shocking discovery in their room. Selina noticed a bite mark on her arm and assumed it was from a mosquito, only to later find more bugs and bloodspots on the bedding.
On the morning of her birthday, Selina’s friend reportedly felt something crawling in her ear, leading to the distressing incident of a bedbug found on the sheet, leaving a bloody stain. Despite being relocated to a different room by the hotel, the experience left them anxious and ruined their holiday. Selina expressed her dissatisfaction with TUI, as she felt that the offered compensation of £50 was inadequate given the £1,300 cost of the trip. Despite later being offered a £100 voucher, Selina was dissatisfied with the handling of her complaint by TUI and the hotel.
Both TUI and the Sol Katmandu Park and Resort declined to comment when approached by the media. The incident serves as a cautionary tale for travellers about the importance of vigilance and proper accommodation hygiene when embarking on holidays.
