Tribute concert plan for boy who died at festival

Family of Deceased Schoolboy Plans Concert to Celebrate His Life

The grieving family of a schoolboy who tragically passed away while attending his first music festival is organizing a concert to honor his memory. Rhys Murray, a 16-year-old with a passion for performing arts, suffered a fatal asthma attack during the In It Together festival in Margam, Neath Port Talbot. Rhys had taken a break from his exam revision to enjoy the event.

His older brother, Thomas, aged 19, lovingly remembers Rhys as a “wonderful” person and intends to host a music event as a tribute to him. Thomas describes Rhys as his world, his rock, and someone who meant everything to him. The family held Rhys in high regard and cherished him deeply.

Rhys had a deep love for musical theatre, performing on stage, and boxing, according to Thomas. “He possessed incredible singing and acting talents,” Thomas recalls. “He had an infectious smile and personality that touched everyone around him. He was also an outstanding student at Ysgol Cwm Brombil.”

Thomas has reached out for assistance in organizing an event in Rhys’s honor, expressing his dream for Lewis Capaldi, an artist Rhys admired, to be part of it. “Rhys connected deeply with Capaldi’s genre, and his lyrics held significant meaning,” Thomas explains. “If I could have anyone sing for Rhys, it would be him.”

Rhys’s school and the youth theatre group he co-founded also paid heartfelt tributes to him. Afan Arts, the youth theatre group, described Rhys as a highly skilled performer, a polite and respectful young man with a great sense of humor. Ysgol Cwm Brombil in Port Talbot regarded Rhys as a valued pupil and extended their sincere condolences to his family and friends.

South Wales Police stated that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Rhys’s passing, and the coroner has been informed. The community mourns the loss of this exceptional young individual whose light touched many lives.
