Transport for Wales staff strike threat update issued
The looming threat of strike action by Transport for Wales staff seems to have been averted with the emergence of a revised offer by the transport provider. Union representatives have responded positively to the revised offer made to staff members. The union had previously expressed discontent over the initial pay offer, which a significant number of members deemed unsatisfactory. This includes employees across various roles such as station staff, depot managers, controllers, and customer service personnel.
Following the rejection of a 3.5% two-year pay offer in year one and a proposal linked to RPI inflation in year two by the union earlier this year, discussions were initiated on potential industrial action, including strikes and other forms of protest. The revised offer presented by Transport for Wales to staff, particularly those in clerical and management positions, now includes a 5% pay rise in the first year and a commitment to matching the rate of RPI in the second year. Additionally, there is a pledge to engage in productivity talks aimed at reducing working hours to a target of 35 hours for certain grades.
Maryam Eslamdoust, General Secretary of TSSA, expressed satisfaction with the revised offer, stating, “After a very clear message from TSSA members to TfW on their willingness to ballot for industrial action, Transport for Wales has revised their offer.” The union members will now have an opportunity to consider the new proposal and vote on the potential course of action.
It appears that a resolution has been reached between Transport for Wales and its employees, paving the way for smoother operations and improved working conditions within the organisation. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing situation.
