David Lalgee, aged 64, tragically lost his life in a collision involving a lorry and four cars on Thursday, March 20. The devastating crash unfolded as the lorry lost control, colliding with two cars before veering into the opposite lane and striking two more vehicles.
David was behind the wheel of one of the cars, with his wife Jo Lalgee as a passenger. In a selfless act of bravery, David swerved to shield Jo from the majority of the impact from the oncoming lorry, ultimately sacrificing his own life to protect his beloved wife. Described as a devoted husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, and pastor at Church Alive in Blackpool, David’s family is mourning his loss. His son-in-law, Reuben Morley, 35, shared the family’s devastation on a GoFundMe page set up to support them, acknowledging David’s unwavering love and strength.
Reflecting on David’s final moments, Reuben highlighted his innate instinct to protect his loved ones, stating, “David’s last moments on earth were spent how he so often lived, protecting the ones he loved, and because of his heroics on the night, nobody else lost their life.” Fortunately, the crash did not claim any other lives, although a young woman sustained serious injuries deemed non-life-threatening by Greater Manchester Police.
Jo Lalgee, David’s wife, narrated the harrowing experience, attributing her miraculous survival to David’s swift actions. Gratefully acknowledging her late husband’s sacrifice, Jo expressed, “David saved my life. It was a miracle that I walked away from the accident, he did everything he could to stop the lorry from hitting me.” She further added, “He sacrificed his life to save mine and I’ll be forever grateful to him for that.”
