Tim Spector shows High Street lunch to fight weight gain and illness

Renowned food, health, and fitness guru Tim Spector, the founder of Zoe Nutrition, has taken to social media to showcase a High Street meal deal lunch aimed at combating weight gain and enhancing overall health. In a recent video shared on TikTok, Professor Spector revealed his lunch pick from the popular High Street chain Pret a Manger, which was carefully crafted to stave off illnesses like diabetes and cancer.

The lunch selection highlighted by Professor Spector was rich in protein and fibre while being low in sugar, with the intention of keeping individuals satiated until dinner and preventing afternoon snacking. The £16.20 meal contained 10g of fibre and 34g of protein, contributing to prolonged feelings of fullness and offering a third of the recommended daily fibre intake, beneficial for gut health and reducing the risk of bowel cancer.

One of the meal components was a crayfish and avocado salad priced at £8.30, showcasing a variety of at least six different plants. Professor Spector emphasised the importance of incorporating 30 different plants daily into one’s diet to promote gut health. He mentioned, “I’m seeing my favourite avocados, which are full of fats and fibre. Crayfish are usually wild so much better than salmon or anything like that.” Additionally, the dish included a small portion of ‘good fats’ from olive oil.

Aside from the salad, Professor Spector also opted for an egg and spinach pot priced at £3.10, salted almonds covered in dark chocolate for £3.10, and an apple at £1. He cautioned against seemingly healthy items like muesli, citing a high sugar content, and highlighted the protein and fibre content in the almond choice as a better alternative.

In a separate video, Professor Spector shared insights into his daily dietary routine, which includes a focus on a diverse range of plants and the addition of fermented foods for gut health. He described starting the day with yoghurt, kefir, and fresh fruit, nuts, and seeds, followed by a salad for lunch and a pre-dinner snack comprising cheese crackers and kimchi.

Overall, Tim Spector’s lunch selection not only provides a nutritious and satisfying meal but also serves as a practical example of how simple food choices can contribute to overall health and well-being. His emphasis on incorporating a variety of plants and mindful eating can inspire individuals to make healthier choices in their own diets.
