Three dogs were seized, and two arrests were made during a recent police operation in Ebbw Vale conducted by Blaenau Gwent officers from Gwent Police. The operation targeted banned breeds, following information that prohibited dogs were being kept at a specific address. This initiative was part of Operation Greyhawk, which is the neighbourhood policing team’s response to emerging crime trends in the borough. Operation Greyhawk involves analysing crime data and planning operations based on investigations and public information.
Chief Inspector Stevie Warden stated that previous operations had focused on anti-social behaviour and vehicle crime in Abertillery, while the most recent operation centred on dangerous dogs and anti-social behaviour in Tredegar. A dispersal order was implemented in Tredegar town centre in response to an increase in reports of disorderly behaviour. During patrols in Tredegar, officers encountered around 20 young people at the shopping centre, whom they dispersed. Subsequently, there were no further reports of anti-social behaviour or off-road vehicles in the area.
Throughout their patrols, the team conducted three stop searches and dealt with two individuals for suspected drug offenses and another for a public order offence. Two arrests were made involving individuals who failed to comply with their bail conditions. Chief Inspector Warden affirmed that these operations would persist, with the team dedicated to safeguarding the public and addressing the challenges affecting them.
In response to the operation’s success, the officers expressed their commitment to ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and tackle prevalent issues. The authorities continue to collaborate with communities to address emerging crime trends effectively.
