£110m Funding Allocated to Boost Transport Infrastructure in Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot
In an effort to enhance local transport systems, the Welsh Government has announced a significant investment totaling £110 million to support various projects in Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot. In Bridgend, a portion of the funds will be directed towards key projects such as the Pen y Fai active travel initiative which aims to construct an upgraded shared pedestrian and cycle pathway along Tondu Road connecting the area to Bridgend town centre. Furthermore, investments will be made in information displays at Bridgend Bus Station and towards road resilience improvements on specific routes within the area. Measures to enhance road safety, including the implementation of a 20mph speed limit and pedestrian training schemes, are also included in the funding.
Meanwhile, in Neath Port Talbot, the funding will support the development of active travel routes, notably the Neath to Cilma project, alongside the establishment of the Neath Integrated Transport Hub in the town centre. The investment in the region will also focus on enhancements to the Cymmer carriageway and road safety measures including motorcycle training programs. Moreover, a substantial sum will be allocated towards highway drainage works to mitigate flooding issues on the A483 Fabian Way, a crucial access road for the area.
