A new restaurant has opened at the Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre in the Afan Valley, near the villages of Glyncorrwg and Abercregan in Neath Port Talbot. The popular visitor centre, which had closed earlier this year, has been taken over by new leaseholders who have transformed it into an “upmarket café, restaurant, and takeaway”. The new owners, chef Lloyd Ryland and entrepreneur Ryan Thomas, have introduced a unique dining experience at the picturesque forest park.
Known as Base at Afan Forest Park, the new restaurant aims to cater to both locals and visitors to the area. The attraction, situated amidst the stunning woodlands of Afan Forest Park, is famous among walkers and mountain biking enthusiasts. It is also close to the independently-run South Wales Miners Museum and the upcoming £250m Wildfox adventure resort, set to be completed by 2027.
Ryan Thomas, one of the joint leaseholders, expressed excitement about the venture, highlighting the unlimited potential the site offers. He emphasized their ambitious plans for the café/restaurant, promising a delectable food selection and extended operating hours. The new establishment is set to cater to the diverse crowds attracted by the park’s natural beauty, mountain biking and cycling trails, and hiking opportunities.
Base at Afan Forest Park is set to offer a mouth-watering menu, with dishes like American-style barbecue pit beans, baked eggs, in-house smoked sausage, and toasted sourdough bread. The restaurant will also feature a variety of burgers, with prices starting at £7.50 for the Base Smash Burger. Additionally, the site will boast a campsite with electric hook-ups for camper vans, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
Local councillor Cen Phillips expressed delight at finding new leaseholders for the visitor centre, stating that it is excellent news for both residents and visitors. The reopening of the Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre under new management signifies a positive development for the local community. With a focus on providing a high-quality dining experience amidst the natural beauty of the park, Base at Afan Forest Park is poised to become a popular culinary destination in the region.
