Construction is progressing at the former Brains Brewery site near Cardiff Central railway station, where two high-rise buildings are taking shape, providing hundreds of apartments. Notably, work has commenced on a 31-storey tower block at Guildford Crescent after Lloyds Living acquired the site. Despite initial backlash over the demolition of the site’s historic façade, approved plans entail its faithful reconstruction.

Other construction projects across the city are also in motion, including the redevelopment of Harlech Court into a 30-storey tower block. Developers Draycott Group are gearing up to transform the site, featuring residential units, commercial space, an external residents’ amenity area, and a public square. This endeavor follows Cardiff Council’s approval for the demolition of Harlech Court in July.

Custom House Street is earmarked for a striking 42-storey building, a project by developers Watkin Jones. Despite delays in completion due to market challenges, plans include accommodations for students and a retail unit. Meanwhile, Central Square stands as a prime example of Cardiff’s urban revival, hosting iconic structures like the BBC Cymru Wales headquarters, Cardiff University school of journalism, and One Central Square offices.

Gramercy Tower, a new apartment complex in Curran Road, now stands tall as Cardiff’s tallest building at 28 storeys. Similarly, the Zenith tower in Atlantic Wharf offers 26 storeys of student accommodation. The former Brains Brewery site is transforming into Central Quay, featuring over 700 apartments, while the Premier Inn hotel along St Mary Street adds a modern touch to the city’s skyline with its 20-storey structure.

With ongoing developments and future proposals, Cardiff’s transformation promises a diverse and dynamic cityscape, blending historic charm with contemporary architecture.
