Mobile speed cameras are actively monitoring drivers across various locations in Wales to enforce speed limits. GoSafe, the Wales road casualty reduction partnership, operates marked vans and motorcycles manned by trained police staff to monitor vehicle speeds. These cameras use a device called a speedscope that can track vehicles up to 1,000 meters away, capturing details like time, date, speed, distance, and site coding for potential prosecution.
For November 2024, mobile speed cameras will be positioned in different areas of Wales to ensure road safety. In Anglesey, locations include Brynsiencyn, Menai Bridge, and Gaerwen. In Gwent, locations such as Blaenau Gwent, Blaina, and Ebbw Vale will be monitored. Bridgend will see operations in Porthcawl, Nottage, and Kenfig Nature Reserve. In Caerphilly, cameras will be set up in places like Mountain Road and Bedwas. Carmarthenshire locations include Llanelli North, Felinfoel, and Cross Hands.
Denbighshire areas like Denbigh and Ruthin will have speed cameras in place. Swansea will see operations in Gorseinon, Penclawdd, and Sketty. Neath Port Talbot locations include Margam, Port Talbot, and Cwmavon. Pembrokeshire areas like Tenby, Pembroke, and Narberth will have monitoring in place. Powys locations include Brecon, Glasbury, and Tregynon. Rhondda Cynon Taff will have cameras in areas like Brynna, Llantrisant, and Pontypool.
Swansea will have monitoring on roads like Fairwood Common, Gowerton, and Bishopston. Torfaen areas such as Cwmbran, Llantarnam, and Pontypool will also have speed cameras. These mobile speed camera operations aim to enhance road safety and encourage adherence to speed limits for all motorists across Wales.
