The Cardiff suburb boasting the best views over the capital
Cardiff is a city renowned for its iconic landmarks, but there is a surprising hidden gem in the suburbs where visitors can experience some of the most stunning views over the city. Fairwater and Pentrebane, often passed through on the way to St Fagans, are areas that are frequently overlooked by tourists and locals alike.
Despite being home to notable institutions such as Cantonian High School and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr, which have produced Welsh celebrities like director Justin Kerrigan and footballers Joe Ledley and John Toshack, these districts still do not attract many visitors. Even The Dell, also known as Fairwater Park, with its Cardiff Ski and Snowboard Centre, fails to draw much attention from passersby.
However, there is a lesser-known reason why a visit to Pentrebane is a must: it offers some of the most breathtaking and beautiful views of Cardiff city centre. Our photographer recently ventured to Pentrebane to capture the mesmerising scenery for himself, and the results were absolutely astounding.
From the vantage point of Hill View, he captured striking views of the city centre, including landmarks like the Principality Stadium and Cardiff Bay. Just a short stroll away on Firs Avenue, he beheld a picturesque scene of Castell Coch peeking through the trees. The panoramic views stretched for miles and left a magical imprint on all who gazed upon them.
Pentrebane’s charm lies not only in its overlooked status but also in its ability to offer a serene escape with unparalleled views of the vibrant city of Cardiff. Whether you are a local looking for a new perspective on your city or a visitor seeking hidden treasures, Pentrebane promises a unique and awe-inspiring experience that should not be missed.
