The experts at the National Lottery have conducted an analysis to determine the luckiest locations in Wales. Since the lottery game’s inception in 1994, there have been 389 millionaires created in Wales, with 58 of them emerging in the past three years.
The statistics, encompassing both publicized and non-publicized winners, reveal that Cardiff takes the lead in millionaire-making with 126 winners. This figure also positions the city as the 8th luckiest location in the entire UK.
Swansea secures the second spot with 87 fortunate individuals experiencing life-changing wins. The top three is completed by the Llandudno area in North Wales, boasting 73 winners.
This news was unveiled by a group of Welsh lottery millionaires who frequently gather to celebrate their life-altering victories.

Among those celebrating was Mark Francis, a 50-year-old rugby fan, who, together with his fiancé Helen Taylor, 52, won £1,000,000 in January 2022. Mark, hailing from Swansea, discovered the win while self-isolating due to Covid. Reflecting on the experience, he expressed, “It has been an incredible 18 months for us. Winning the lottery is truly life-changing. We have been able to purchase a home, attend all Six Nations games to support Wales, and upgrade our cars. As cars and driving are my passion, this holds a deeper meaning for me. Every time I get in my Audi Q3 RS, it feels like winning all over again!”
Helen added, “After the win, I had a health scare which definitely put everything into perspective. However, I was lucky once again, and now that I am on the mend, we can truly begin to enjoy the win. We have been busy planning our wedding, and I feel blessed that I can choose things based on my preferences rather than budget constraints. Having said that, I am still mindful of our spending. Sharing our luck is important to us, so we recently purchased a caravan on The Gower, allowing friends and family to enjoy short breaks and family holidays as well. It has already become quite popular with my mother and our grandchildren, so I am uncertain how much time we will actually get to spend there!”
She concluded, “Congratulations to everyone in Wales. I have always believed that we are some of the luckiest people around. And remember, it could be you, as long as you have a ticket in your pocket!”
Kathy Garrett, the winners experience lead at The National Lottery, extended her congratulations to all the winners. She mentioned being privileged to witness the life-changing moment when the win is confirmed and the prize is awarded. Kathy emphasized, “We travel to every corner of the country to present significant winnings, so I know that luck is present in every corner of Wales and across the UK. Simply having a ticket means it could be you next. Hopefully, I’ll see you soon.”
