A fleeing biker’s reckless and dangerous actions resulted in a terrifying collision with a pregnant woman’s car during a 100mph chase, as reported by Wales Online. Luca Dunn, the rider of a stolen motorbike, led police on a high-speed pursuit before crashing into the vehicle driven by the expectant mother. Despite pleading guilty to the offence just days prior and being banned from driving, Dunn engaged in another chase shortly after. This time, he attempted to evade officers in a van, prompting the use of a police helicopter to track him down. Dunn’s barrister acknowledged his client’s lack of consideration for the safety of other road users, describing Dunn as “mortified” upon realising he had crashed into a pregnant woman’s car.
According to court proceedings at Swansea Crown Court, the incident unfolded on June 2 the previous year, when a police officer conducting speed checks observed two motorcycles, including Dunn’s Yamaha MT-07, speeding on the A4067 Ffordd Cwm Tawe dual carriageway. Despite attempts by the officer to stop Dunn, he accelerated away, reaching speeds of up to 100mph. Dunn dangerously overtook vehicles by squeezing through narrow gaps and eventually crashed into a car, causing him to be thrown from his bike. Fortunately, the pregnant driver of the car escaped injury in the collision.
Subsequently, Dunn faced charges related to the dangerous driving incident and pleaded guilty at the Llanelli Magistrates Court. However, just five days after being banned from driving, Dunn engaged in another high-speed pursuit in Llanelli, this time using a van registered to a company from a different part of the UK. His erratic driving behavior included speeding on 30mph streets, driving over a grass verge, and travelling the wrong way along a one-way street to evade authorities. The pursuit led to Dunn’s arrest near an industrial estate in Llangennech.
During sentencing at Swansea Crown Court, Dunn admitted to dangerous driving, driving without a proper licence, driving without insurance, driving without due care and attention, and driving while disqualified. Recorder Christian Jowett sentenced Dunn to 17 months in prison, comprising 14 months for dangerous driving and three months for driving while disqualified, to be served consecutively. Dunn was also disqualified from driving for a total of 30 months and required to pass an extended test before regaining his licence.
The court highlighted Dunn’s disregard for the safety of others on the road and the potential consequences of his actions, especially considering the vulnerable road user involved in the collision. The gravity of Dunn’s offences warranted a custodial sentence to convey a message of deterrence and accountability for his irresponsible behaviour behind the wheel. Recorder Jowett emphasized the importance of road safety and the need to address such egregious violations to protect the public from harm.
In conclusion, Luca Dunn’s reckless and unlawful conduct on the roads resulted in significant risks to the safety of fellow motorists, including a pregnant woman. The judicial system’s response to Dunn’s actions serves as a reminder of the serious consequences that can arise from dangerous driving behaviours. It underscores the importance of upholding road safety regulations and holding individuals accountable for endangering the lives of others through reckless driving practices.
