Llanedeyrn, Cardiff – A frightening incident near Ysgol Y Berllan Deg has left the local community deeply unsettled, with parents and grandparents now urged to take extra precautions. The school’s headteacher issued a statement following an attempted car theft outside the school, in which a grandmother narrowly escaped having her vehicle stolen.
The incident took place yesterday when the woman, a member of the school community, parked outside the school early to read in her car while waiting to collect her grandchild. According to the headteacher, a man approached the vehicle, knocked on the window, and claimed the car’s registration plate was hanging off. Concerned, the woman stepped out to inspect her car.
In a sudden and shocking move, the man jumped into the driver’s seat, possibly intending to steal the car. However, the grandmother acted quickly and courageously, managing to pull the man out of the vehicle before he could drive away. The man fled the scene on foot, heading in the direction of St Teilo’s School.
The headteacher of Ysgol Y Berllan Deg expressed deep concern over the incident, calling it “terrifying” and urging the community to stay vigilant. “I feel it is my duty to inform you of this alarming event,” the statement read. “Please take care and remain alert in case somebody tries to do something similar.”
The incident has been reported to the police, who are now investigating. Authorities are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen the man fleeing the scene to come forward.
