Strictly star says being on BBC show is ‘intense’ but explains what helps him

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Tom Dean has revealed that training for the popular BBC One show has been ‘intense’, but he shared a key element that has been aiding him both physically and mentally. The Olympic gold-medallist is currently showcasing his dance moves alongside professional partner Nadiya Bychkova on the latest series of the show. Tom is one of 15 celebrities vying for the coveted glitterball trophy over the course of 13 weeks.

Despite his hectic schedule, Tom recently made a surprise appearance at Sir William Ramsay School in Buckinghamshire, where he captivated students with his journey from a young swimmer with aspirations to an Olympic champion. During the visit, Tom emphasised the importance of rest and sleep in his rigorous training routine. He highlighted, “As an athlete, I very quickly learned that sleep is just as important as training and nutrition when it comes to performing at your best. Competing on Strictly this year and undergoing intense dance training has also reinforced how crucial rest is, not just for physical recovery but for mental focus as well.”

Speaking on his school visit, Tom expressed his delight in sharing his message with students and motivating them to prioritise sleep as a vital component in achieving their dreams, whether in sports or everyday life. The sports star encouraged students to formulate their own ‘Dreams Sleep Pledge’ aimed at enhancing their bedtime rituals, including suggestions such as reducing screen time and engaging in physical activities.

Coinciding with Tom’s visit, Sir William Ramsay School unveiled a new competitive house system honouring celebrated Olympians, with one house designated in homage to Tom Dean. This initiative is designed to inspire students to pursue excellence in academia and athletics alike. Meanwhile, fellow Strictly participant Nick Knowles is grappling with uncertainty regarding his performance on the upcoming Saturday show due to a shoulder and arm injury. The TV personality remains optimistic about his recovery following a noteworthy rehearsal session.

As Tom Dean and Nick Knowles navigate their Strictly Come Dancing journeys, the audience eagerly anticipates their performances and resilience on the dance floor. The show continues to captivate viewers with its blend of celebrity charm and dazzling performances, promising an exciting season ahead.
