Dr Punam Krishan, well-known for her work as a GP and a presenter on BBC’s Morning Live, has recently joined Strictly Come Dancing’s star-studded lineup. Paired with professional dancer Gorka Marquez, the duo wowed the audience with a Bollywood performance to the track Bole Chudiyan from the film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham on a recent episode of the show.
Reflecting on her experience, Dr Krishan expressed her emotions saying, “I never saw Indian girls dancing on mainstream television, so to be doing now, an Indian dance, on a platform like Strictly, it’s huge. I am such a proud Scottish Indian girl.” Born in Glasgow in 1983, Dr Krishan holds a medical degree from Glasgow University and considers the city her home.
Beyond her professional life, Dr Krishan is also known for her family life. She is married to Scottish Conservative health spokesman, Dr Sandesh Gulhane, and together they have two children, a son named Aarish and a daughter named Ellora. Dr Krishan, often referred to as a “media medic and broadcaster,” has delved into various media outlets, including penning a children’s book.
Stepping onto the dance floor of Strictly Come Dancing was a new and exhilarating challenge for Dr Krishan, who shared her excitement by stating, “This still doesn’t feel real, I am overjoyed to be a contestant on this year’s show. I have watched Strictly every year with my family and it feels extra special that it’s the 20th year, I can’t believe I will be the one getting Strictly-fied now.” She added, “This is so out of my comfort zone, but I’m up for the journey and will give it my absolute all.”
