Storm Oscar in the Canaries to hit weather in Wales this weekend sending temperatures soaring to 27°C

Storm Oscar, which is currently heading towards the Canary Islands and Madeira, is expected to impact the weather in Wales toward the end of the week.

The weather across the UK is predicted to remain dry and pleasant for most of the week due to the presence of high pressure. However, temperatures are forecasted to rise and reach highs of 27°C over the weekend, along with an increased chance of rain.

Carol Kirkwood, a forecaster on BBC Breakfast, explained, “We can expect changes as we approach the weekend. Storm Oscar in the Bay of Biscay is generating heavy rain and strong winds in Madeira and the Canary Islands, and eventually, it will start moving towards our shores, bringing clouds and showers.”

She added, “High pressure will draw in mild, humid air, leading to soaring temperatures during the weekend.”

The Met Office indicates that the center of the high-pressure system, which has been dominating the UK’s weather, may shift eastward in the second half of the week. This shift could result in south-easterly winds bringing warm air from the nearby continent.

The weather might become hotter and more humid, reaching the mid-to-high twenties Celsius in some places, especially in the south, by the weekend. This increased warmth brings a potential risk of scattered showers or thunderstorms in the South West on Friday and Saturday, although the certainty of these developments is currently uncertain.

Wales has experienced a dry spell lasting over three weeks, but Derek Brockway, a weather forecaster at BBC Wales, states, “It seems that the prolonged dry period will start to break down next weekend. Low pressure west of Portugal will move closer, bringing a chance of showers and thunderstorms. There will still be some sunshine, and it will become humid and warmer, with temperatures rising to 25°C in certain areas.”
