Teenager Faces Terror Charge in Connection with Southport Taylor Swift Dance Class Murders
Axel Rudakubana, the teenager accused of killing three girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport, is now facing additional charges of a terror offence and production of a deadly poison. The 18-year-old will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court via videolink on Wednesday to face charges related to the production of the biological toxin Ricin and possession of information linked to terrorism.
Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy stated that these charges follow searches conducted at Rudakubana’s home in Banks, Lancashire. The terror offence charge is associated with a PDF file discovered during the investigation titled “Military Studies In The Jihad Against the Tyrants, The Al Qaeda Training Manual.”
Rudakubana is already facing charges for the murder of Alice da Silva Aguiar, Bebe King, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, who tragically lost their lives during the dance class incident on July 29. Additionally, he is accused of attempting to murder eight other children, their instructor, and a businessman. The police confirmed the discovery of an unknown substance, Ricin, during searches at his residence.
Chief Constable Kennedy emphasized that there was a minimal risk to the public and clarified that no Ricin was found at the scene of the dance class. She also stressed that the incident has not been declared a terrorist act by counter-terror authorities.
During a press conference, Dr. Renu Bindra of the UK Health Security Agency reassured the public that there was no evidence of exposure to Ricin among the victims or responders. The police continue to urge against speculation regarding the motives behind the charges, highlighting Rudakubana’s right to a fair trial.
The tragic events that unfolded at the Southport dance class led to the deaths of three young girls, prompting a wave of mourning and community support. Following the incident, public vigils were held to honour the victims, although some gatherings escalated into violent protests.
