Son of missing man keeps asking same heartbreaking question

The family of Marcus Barter, a 30-year-old man from Newport who has been missing since August 1, is facing heartbreak as his young son continually asks, “Where’s Daddy?” Marcus was last seen on CCTV footage walking in Coed y Caerau Lane in Newport at around 2.30pm, wearing grey shorts, a grey T-shirt, and sliders. His car was found near the lane with his mobile phone inside, last active at the same location. Since his disappearance, there has been no contact from Marcus, leading his family to describe the situation as feeling like he had been “abducted by aliens”.

His family launched a public appeal with Gwent Police on August 16 to assist in finding Marcus. His brother, Simon, expressed the family’s distress, stating they are grappling with numerous theories about his disappearance. Marcus’s sudden absence is said to be out of character, and he is known to suffer from mental health issues. Despite being on medication, in the weeks leading up to his disappearance, he appeared to be coping well, according to his family.

Search efforts have been intensive, with family, friends, and volunteers combing through Wentwood, the largest ancient woodland in Wales. Gwent Police have deployed helicopters, drones, and specialist search-trained dogs in the search. Detective Chief Inspector David Morris highlighted the challenges of searching the rural area and urged the public to come forward with any information.

Two individuals of interest have been identified, and the police are seeking information from them and the public. Marcus’s family is utilising social media to coordinate search efforts and raise awareness. The community’s support in the search and sharing of information has been crucial in the ongoing efforts to locate Marcus.

The family continues to endure the anguish of not knowing Marcus’s whereabouts, with his mother Nicola appealing for any information that could lead to his safe return. His family remains optimistic and eager for any updates that could bring Marcus back home. The public is encouraged to provide any information to Gwent Police to aid in finding Marcus and bring solace to his worried loved ones.
