Schoolboy who was ‘never without a smile’ dies on way back from family holiday

A nine-year-old schoolboy described as “happy, polite and courteous” tragically passed away on his way back from a family holiday. Freddie Pritchard, a pupil at All Saints School in Wrexham, died on Saturday, September 14, following a trip to Tenerife. Freddie, an enthusiastic football fan supporting Wrexham AFC, Liverpool, and other teams, also played for Gresford Athletic. A fundraiser has been set up to cover Freddie’s funeral expenses, with contributions also benefiting various charitable organisations. The fundraiser has already exceeded £5,000, highlighting Freddie’s widespread popularity.

Freddie’s family, through his aunt Jessica Tomlinson, remembered him as a charismatic and funny boy, adored by everyone who met him. His unexpected passing has left his loved ones without answers as to the cause. His family plans to honour him by establishing a “buddy bench” at his school and planting a tree in Forest school to commemorate his adventurous spirit. The community has rallied around the family, with All Saints School and Gresford Athletic expressing their condolences and mourning Freddie’s loss.

Headteacher Richard Hatwood praised Freddie as a cheerful and kind student who brightened the school with his presence. The Gresford Athletic community mourned Freddie’s passing, lauding him as a talented player with a warm personality. Grassroots Football Wales organised a minute’s silence in memory of Freddie, reflecting on the impact of his untimely death on the football fraternity. The Welsh grassroots community united in support of Freddie’s family during this challenging time.

Freddie’s sudden death has deeply affected his school, sports teams, and the wider community, with an outpouring of support and tributes pouring in. Despite the sorrow felt by those who knew him and even those who didn’t, his spirit and kind-hearted nature will be remembered and cherished by all who were touched by his presence. Freddie’s legacy will live on through the fond memories and the lasting impact he had on those around him.
