Schoolboy told ‘run or we’ll stab you’ by bike thieves who took his bike

A schoolboy in Southport was confronted by two bike thieves who threatened him with a knife and stole his bike as he was on his way home from the gym. The 15-year-old was ordered to run or face being stabbed by the assailants who were believed to be in their 20s. The boy’s mother, Sam Hughes, recounted the terrifying ordeal her son faced, stating that he was visibly shaken as he described the incident.

According to Sam, her son was riding his bike slowly with a friend when they encountered two boys of similar height approaching them. The thieves demanded the bike, with one of them brandishing what appeared to be a knife. The boy complied and ran off with his friend, seeking refuge in a nearby garden where they called the police. Upon his return home, the boy was described as pale, trembling, and in shock by his mother.

Sam expressed relief that her son did not resist the thieves and followed their demands, ensuring his safety. She emphasised the trauma her son experienced and praised his quick thinking in the face of danger. Merseyside Police are investigating the incident and appealing for information from the public to apprehend the suspects responsible for the robbery.

Detective Inspector Paul McVeigh emphasised the need to find the culprits and bring them to justice. He urged anyone with relevant information or footage from the area to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation. The stolen bike was described as a blue Nuke Proof Scout mountain bike, and the suspects were identified as two white males in their early 20s wearing distinct clothing.

The community has been shocked by the incident, with residents expressing concern over the brazen robbery. The schoolboy’s harrowing experience serves as a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant and safe while out in public. Authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety of the neighbourhood and hold those responsible for the crime accountable.

As the investigation progresses, residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity and cooperate with the police to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future. The victim’s family is grateful for the support received and hopes for a swift resolution to the case to bring closure and peace of mind to the community.
