A pensioner in Wales has been left stunned after roofers working on his house left a large pile of construction waste outside, blocking part of his driveway. Robert Rowlands, 88, had hired Apex Roofing Repairs Ltd in Cardiff to replace the roof tiles at his home in Pentrebane. He was billed £6,500 for the job, which started on September 12. However, instead of using a skip for the waste, the workers piled up discarded tiles on Mr. Rowlands’ driveway.
According to Mr. Rowlands’ family, they have been requesting the removal of the waste from the company almost daily, and have been promised that it would be done soon. However, more than three weeks later, the debris still remains uncleared. Speaking to WalesOnline, Mr. Rowlands expressed his frustration, stating, “It’s been about three weeks now I’ve been waiting for it to be moved. In the beginning I believed them but it never came to fruition. I want to get that lot cleared – it’s driving me around the twist.”
A family member, who chose to remain anonymous, shared concerns about Mr. Rowlands’ wellbeing, mentioning his mobility issues and recent health struggles. They highlighted that the blocked driveway has made it difficult for Mr. Rowlands to navigate the area safely, causing distress and frustration. Despite efforts from the family to clear a path through the debris, a significant portion of the driveway remains inaccessible to Mr. Rowlands, further limiting his mobility.
A spokesperson for Apex Roofing mentioned that they intended to utilize a grab company for waste removal instead of a skip. They stated that they were waiting for a third party’s availability to collect the debris, attributing the delay to scheduling issues. The company also claimed responsibility for clearing a path through the waste, contrary to the family’s account.
As the situation remains unresolved, concerns over Mr. Rowlands’ safety and well-being persist, with his family urging for prompt action to rectify the issue. The prolonged presence of the waste pile not only obstructs access to the property but also poses a potential hazard to Mr. Rowlands and his family. Efforts to address the situation and ensure the prompt removal of the waste continue, as Mr. Rowlands waits for a resolution to this unsettling predicament.
