Rob Burrow’s wife accepts emotional honour and says husband is a ‘beacon of hope’

Rob Burrow’s wife, Lindsey, graciously accepted an award honouring her late husband at the GoCardless JustGiving Awards ceremony. Lindsey described Rob as a “beacon of hope and inspiration” for his unwavering dedication to raising awareness and funds for motor neurone disease (MND). Rob passed away in June at the age of 41, following a courageous battle with MND that began four-and-a-half years earlier.

Despite being diagnosed with MND shortly after retiring from his rugby career, Rob’s determination never wavered. Alongside his friend Kevin Sinfield, Rob spearheaded fundraising efforts that amassed over £15 million for MND charities. Lindsey expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support, sharing that the funds raised have paved the way for the development of the Rob Burrow Centre for MND.

The special recognition award bestowed upon Rob posthumously acknowledges his exceptional contributions to the MND community. Through his relentless efforts, Rob not only raised substantial funds but also inspired countless individuals to support the cause. Just one day after his passing, work commenced on the establishment of the Rob Burrow Centre for MND, with Rob’s fundraising efforts playing a pivotal role in realising this vision.

Pascale Harvie, president of JustGiving, commended Rob’s selfless dedication, noting his remarkable ability to channel his adversities into impactful initiatives. The legacy that Rob leaves behind serves as a testament to his indomitable spirit and unwavering commitment to making a difference in the fight against MND.

As Lindsey accepted the award on behalf of her late husband, she reflected on Rob’s resilience and enduring legacy. The Rob Burrow Centre for MND stands as a testament to Rob’s enduring impact on the MND community, offering hope and support to those affected by the disease.
