A Cardiff resident has raised concerns over plans for a late-night outdoor restaurant on Whitchurch Road, claiming it would make life unbearable for him and his partner. The proposed Indian restaurant, Ginger and Clove, will take the place of Wildflower Kitchen, pending its opening later this month. During a recent Cardiff Council licensing subcommittee meeting, residents living behind the restaurant expressed worries about potential noise disruptions due to outdoor dining.
One resident, who resides with his wife behind the new restaurant, highlighted that the noise was already problematic when the establishment was a cafe. He extended his garden fence for more privacy but fears that the outdoor dining plans will exacerbate the situation. Owner Matthew Varghese stated his intention to cooperate with residents and has agreed to various conditions put forth by authorities, including ceasing outdoor activities after 9pm, with a voluntary extension to 8pm.
Neil Muscott, another resident, emphasized how the noise could negatively impact his partner, who suffers from epilepsy, making their life distressing. Varghese acknowledged the street’s existing noise level but residents stressed the significant disruption the outdoor dining could bring to their lives. Concerns were raised about noise pollution and the limited outdoor space available to residents in the vicinity.
Both residents acknowledged that they do not object to the restaurant itself but are against the late usage of the outdoor garden area. Varghese expressed his desire to operate the business smoothly, balancing customer needs and residents’ concerns. He aims to open the restaurant sometime this month and hopes to find a middle ground that satisfies all parties involved.
Residents are apprehensive about the potential disturbance that the outdoor dining could bring to their daily lives. The dialogue between the residents and the restaurant owner continues as they seek an amicable resolution that takes into account the well-being of all parties involved. The fate of the outdoor dining at Ginger and Clove remains uncertain as the community waits for a decision on the matter.
