‘Rare condition left me unable to have sex – then something miraculous happened’

Saffron Mullen, a woman who struggled with a rare condition that prevented her from having sex, is now expecting a “miracle” baby at 41 after becoming pregnant naturally. Saffron faced a rare anatomical issue causing a blockage in her vagina, which resulted in surgery that left her with severe scar tissue, making intercourse impossible. Alongside this condition, she also had undiagnosed endometriosis and a neurological problem affecting her ability to eat and swallow.

Dealing with these health challenges took a toll on Saffron’s mental and physical well-being, relationships, and career. Over the years, she underwent surgeries to address her conditions, changed her diet and lifestyle, and underwent therapy to improve her health. Despite doctors warning her about the difficulties of conceiving at her age, Saffron decided to try for a baby naturally with her partner. Against the odds, she conceived and is now expecting a baby boy in mid-October.

Saffron’s journey involved struggles with her anatomical issue, endometriosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and achalasia before finally achieving a healthy sex life and pregnancy. She emphasises the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and advocating for women with chronic conditions. Saffron’s story serves as a testament to overcoming challenges and defying statistics related to fertility and age.

Throughout her journey, Saffron underwent various surgeries, therapies, and lifestyle changes to manage her conditions and improve her health. Her perseverance and belief in the natural conception process led to her successful pregnancy at 41. By sharing her story, Saffron aims to raise awareness about the complexities of obtaining diagnoses for chronic conditions and addressing assumptions about women’s biological clocks.
