RAC Advises Every Driver to Allocate £600 a Year for Unforeseen Expenses
According to a recent report by the RAC, drivers are shelling out an average of £600 annually on unexpected car repairs. The breakdown specialists have disclosed that as many as six out of 10 drivers are caught off guard with unforeseen repair expenses for their primary vehicle each year. The study indicates that tyres are the top unexpected motoring costs, closely followed by brake repairs. Other common unexpected expenses cited by drivers surveyed include the need for new suspension parts such as shock absorbers and springs, replacement of exterior lights, repairs to bodywork damages like dents and scrapes, and having to swap faulty or worn-out 12-volt batteries.
Paul Coward, the chief executive of the RAC’s service, maintenance, and repair division, highlights the dread that unexpected car repairs bring to every driver. The situation is further exacerbated for around a third of drivers who struggle to cover these unplanned costs.
