Plans to rejuvenate Aberafan seafront in Neath Port Talbot have been given the green light, with a new masterplan set to introduce exciting new developments to the popular area. The Neath Port Talbot Council’s cabinet recently approved proposals for a wellness garden, restaurant, skate park, and play spaces in Aberavon. These initiatives are part of a scheme aimed at enhancing the quality and range of facilities available along the seafront to attract visitors and elevate the area’s profile both nationally and internationally.
The proposed developments include the creation of a new Naval Club as a destination restaurant and bar, a Dunes Park near Scarlet Avenue, a toilet block, and an accessible route to the beach from Scarlet Avenue car park. Additionally, there are plans for new play spaces, beach huts, a pump track, and a skate park near Aberavon leisure centre. The goal is to transform the seafront into a thriving destination by tapping into its natural beauty and rugged charm.
Furthermore, the masterplan envisions an extensive wellness garden, improvements around the whale sculpture area, new showers, toilet blocks, changing areas, and active travel links to enhance visitors’ experience. The proposals have received positive feedback from the community, with 75% of respondents supporting the goals outlined in the masterplan, including enhanced beach attractions, food options, and accessibility.
