Police in Wales deployed a taser on a 28-year-old man, Shane Agoreyo, as he was out shopping with his girlfriend in Cardiff. The incident unfolded when Agoreyo was found in possession of crack cocaine during the shopping trip. South Wales Police discovered his involvement after a drugs line associated with the supply of crack cocaine was seized. An investigation into the phone connected to the drugs line revealed 566 messages from Agoreyo, implicating him in the sale of the illicit substance.
The events leading to Agoreyo’s arrest began when he and his girlfriend were seen in a car in Schooner Way, Butetown, where a suspected drug deal took place. Subsequently, they drove to Cardiff city centre and parked at the St David’s car park before heading to a shopping centre. Upon Agoreyo’s return to the car park around 9.20pm, police detained him, leading to a taser being deployed as he resisted arrest. A search of his possession revealed 11.42g of crack cocaine, green wraps, an iPhone, and £275 in cash.
In the sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, Agoreyo admitted to possession with intent to supply class A drugs and involvement in the supply of crack cocaine. The court heard about Agoreyo’s previous convictions for similar offences, with his defence lawyer describing him as a young man operating as a street dealer to earn a living. Despite his troubled background, Agoreyo expressed a desire to turn his life around.
Judge Daniel Williams handed Agoreyo a sentence of three years and eight months in prison, with the requirement to serve half of the term in custody before being released on licence for the remaining period. The court emphasized the seriousness of drug-related offences and the impact they have on communities.
