Plans for new lodge caravan site near Porthcawl approved

Plans to construct a new lodge caravan park in Porthcawl have been given the green light by Bridgend council. The proposal, put forth by Nottage Leisure Parks Ltd, envisions the development of up to 37 semi-permanent lodges, as well as an office and service building on the grounds of the existing Rooklands Leisure Park, which is currently open to campers and camper vans. Situated on a small triangular piece of land off the A4229 Pyle Road in Nottage, the site encompasses a 1.6-hectare field divided into sections for the campsite and pasture land.

According to the submitted plans, the lodges will be positioned around the periphery of the site, with an access road and additional lodges in the central area. The proposal also outlines the closure of the current vehicle access point, allowing only pedestrian access. Concerns were raised about potential risks to pedestrian safety due to the proximity of the busy A4229 road, particularly for those travelling to Nottage village. Additionally, objections centred on the reduction of camping and touring caravan pitches.

However, council officers addressed these issues by suggesting that pedestrians use the designated footway and assured that the loss of a small portion of the caravan site did not suffice as grounds for rejection. Emphasising alignment with the local development plan, officials highlighted the necessity and viability of the development, aimed at providing high-quality tourist accommodation year-round while complying with policies. Following a meeting of Bridgend Council’s planning committee on September 19, the plans were unanimously approved, with additional provisions for increased signage and lighting at the site.

This decision marks a significant step towards the creation of new tourism opportunities in the area, catering to visitors seeking modern and comfortable lodging options. The lodge caravan site is poised to enhance the local tourism sector and attract travellers looking to explore the coastal beauty of Porthcawl. Residents and stakeholders eagerly anticipate the positive impacts of this development, which promises to enrich the holiday experience for visitors while contributing to the economic growth of the region. The newfound approval signals a promising future for Porthcawl’s tourism landscape, inviting visitors to indulge in a memorable stay amidst the picturesque surroundings of the coastal town.
