Plans have been given the green light for the construction of two new homes in Neath Port Talbot, despite facing objections from residents in the area. The proposal, which involves building two detached houses in the Lower Brynamman region, was approved during a recent council planning committee meeting. The new dwellings are set to be erected between Glyn Road and Maes Y Glyn in Lower Brynamman.
The report presented stated that the two-storey detached houses would feature white render with elements of brick and timber cladding. Additionally, each property will have a rear garden area, means of enclosure, and a driveway providing direct access from Glyn Road. Although the project received the council’s approval, it was brought to the committee’s attention by local ward member Councillor Sonia Reynolds due to objections raised by residents, particularly concerning parking and access issues.
During the meeting, Councillor Reynolds expressed concerns about potential challenges that the plans could pose, citing reports of a local bus service facing difficulties navigating the road due to parking problems. Six representations from the public also highlighted worries about the loss of on-street parking, highway safety, and the capacity of Maes Y Glyn Road to accommodate larger vehicles after the construction.
Council officers supporting the plans acknowledged the parking impact but reassured that the properties would provide their parking spaces, with driveways serving as passing points for vehicles accessing the road. They also mentioned that the development density would remain within planning policy limits, with additional conditions attached to the construction phase.
Despite the objections, councillors at the meeting approved the construction of the new houses in Brynamman. The decision not to conduct a site visit was made during a previous vote. This development comes amidst ongoing efforts to address housing needs and expand residential options within Neath Port Talbot.
The approval of these new homes marks a significant step in the local area’s housing development and highlights the council’s commitment to addressing housing demands. While objections were raised by some residents regarding parking and access issues, the council’s decision reflects the balance between meeting housing needs and addressing community concerns. The project is expected to provide new housing options in the Lower Brynamman region, contributing to the local housing market.
Looking ahead, the construction of the two new properties is set to commence, bringing opportunities for growth and expansion in Neath Port Talbot. The decision to move forward with the development underscores the council’s dedication to fostering housing initiatives and responding to the evolving needs of the community. This development signifies a positive stride towards enhancing residential options and meeting the housing requirements of Neath Port Talbot residents.
