Emergency services rushed to Llandough Hospital in the Vale of Glamorgan after a bus collided with parked cars, causing significant damage as shown in pictures from the scene. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, resulting in no injuries but leaving two parked cars in a crumpled heap, with the bus also sustaining front-end damage.
The bus remained perched over a ledge at “public car park one” within the hospital grounds for a few hours, held up by ropes attached by workers from Walls Truck Services who also assisted in pulling the bus back from the edge around 4.30pm. Images depict the bus stuck between the car park and a neighbouring multi-storey building, with cars piled beneath it.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police confirmed the collision involved a bus and several stationary cars at Llandough Hospital. While no serious injuries were reported, investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service set up a cordon and ensured the scene was safe, with the police continuing their inquiries.
The Cardiff and Vale University Health Board confirmed that a bus collided with parked cars in the hospital’s multi-storey car park, with ongoing efforts to clear the area and assess its safety for reopening. They thanked staff for their professionalism during the incident and emergency services for their prompt response. Access to the car park remains restricted for new vehicles, but arrangements are in place for retrieving parked cars.
The involvement of emergency services like South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and South Wales Police highlights the collaborative effort to manage the situation and ensure public safety. The incident serves as a reminder of the swift response and coordination needed during unforeseen events to minimise impact and maintain operational continuity.
