Organised crime group who supplied heroin and cocaine in south Wales sentenced to almost 100 years

An organised crime group has been sentenced to nearly 100 years in prison for their involvement in supplying heroin and cocaine in south Wales. The group, led by 41-year-old Tufial Akthar from Cardiff, was targeted in an investigation by the regional organised crime unit Tarian, resulting in significant arrests and drug seizures. The group’s criminal activities were exposed when Akthar met with Jamie Davies, Rhydian Charles, and Grant Clarke from Llanelli, leading to the discovery and seizure of a kilogram of cocaine from Clarke’s car by the police.

Following this initial interaction, the group continued their illicit activities through communications and meetings, involving individuals from various locations such as London and Cardiff. The operation, named Operation Solidago, saw significant developments, including the arrest of courier Hafiz Aslam with 4.5kg of heroin and the seizure of large amounts of drugs from the premises of key members like Akthar and Mohamoud Goth.

In total, 5.25kg of heroin and 1.5kg of cocaine were seized during the operation, valued between £157,510 and £219,680. Akthar, also known as Muhamed Ali, received a substantial sentence of 17 years and six months for conspiracy to supply class A drugs, in addition to charges related to the use of EncroChat. Other members of the group received varying prison sentences for their involvement in the drug supply chain.
