Carey was identified in CCTV footage attacking a police van and throwing objects. Despite claiming no involvement, he was arrested and later admitted to participating in the violence. Despite pleas for a suspended sentence, Judge Dennis Watson KC sentenced Carey to immediate custody, citing his active and persistent participation in mob violence as racially aggravated.
