Newport to host Eisteddfod yr Urdd for first time

Newport will host Eisteddfod yr Urdd for the first time in 2027, as confirmed on September 12. The decision marks a historic moment as the youth festival has never visited Newport in its almost 100-year history. The Urdd and Newport City Council are currently discussing possible site locations for the event. Until 2027, the festival’s locations have been planned, with Margam Park in Neath Port-Talbot set to host between May 26 and May 31, 2025, followed by Anglesey in 2026. Eisteddfod yr Urdd is renowned as one of Europe’s largest youth festivals, attracting over 100,000 registrations for competition and drawing more than 100,000 visitors annually.

Councillor Emma Stowell-Corten, Newport City Council’s cabinet member for culture and communications, expressed excitement over hosting the Urdd festival.
