New Events and Filming Policy Approved in Neath Port Talbot

Following a “lengthy review,” the local council in Neath Port Talbot has recently approved a new policy regarding the organization of events, festivals, and filming within the county. The policy aims to streamline the process of organizing future events to maximize the cultural and economic benefits of hosting more events in the area. Notably, Neath Port Talbot is known for hosting various annual events like the Food and Drink Festival and the In It Together Festival, as well as being a popular filming location for television shows and movies.

  • The Urdd Eisteddfod, one of the largest youth festivals in Europe, will return to the borough for the first time in over 20 years in 2025.
  • A new Events and Film Office is set to be established to oversee the events policy and application process.
  • Filming in the area is projected to contribute around £1.35m to the local economy by the end of 2026-27.

The council spokesperson emphasized that the policy is designed to ensure the safety of residents and visitors while making the most of events, festivals, and filming opportunities in Neath Port Talbot. This initiative aligns with the larger vision of the Neath Port Talbot Council Cultural Strategy, which was officially launched earlier this year alongside the Heritage Strategy and Destination Management Plan. These strategies collectively aim to elevate the county borough into a nationally recognized destination with a rich offering of sports, heritage, arts, and culture.

The unanimous approval of the new policy by council members signals a positive step towards enhancing the county’s event organization process. The council anticipates that the new events policy will be fully operational by spring 2025, allowing for more efficient and effective management of events, festivals, and filming activities in Neath Port Talbot.
