A new adventure park, complete with a zip wire and play tower, has been unveiled at Aberavon Beach in Port Talbot, Wales. The eagerly anticipated “destination” playground is now open to the public, offering a range of exciting activities for visitors of all ages. The park, which cost over £200,000 to construct, is a testament to Neath Port Talbot Council’s commitment to providing innovative and sustainable recreational spaces for the community.
Situated at Aberavon Beach, the playground incorporates elements made from recycled ocean waste, highlighting a strong emphasis on environmental consciousness. One of its standout features is the impressive 8.9-metre high play tower named the ‘Ocean Giant’, surrounded by various nautical-themed structures like dolphins and shells. In addition to the zip wire, the park also includes climbing walls, a tube slide, an overhead ladder, and other engaging play equipment to ensure hours of fun for visitors.
Council officials, including Steve Hunt and Steve Jones, ceremoniously inaugurated the new adventure park by cutting the ribbon on February 13th. The development forms part of Neath Port Talbot Council’s ambitious £4.25 million ‘green up and clean up’ initiative, aimed at revamping local communities and public spaces. Cllr Hunt expressed, “This eye-catching new development will enhance the beach area by introducing a sustainable, adventure-based attraction that promotes recreation and environmental awareness.”
Moreover, Cllr Jones highlighted the park’s significance by stating, “The combination of cutting-edge play equipment and a commitment to sustainability makes this project an important addition to Neath Port Talbot’s growing portfolio of green initiatives.” The construction of the new playground commenced in September, undertaken by Kompan, a renowned global leader in outdoor play and fitness site design, showcasing a blend of innovation and expertise in its creation.
The unveiling of this adventure playground marks the beginning of a broader transformation planned for Aberavon Seafront. Neath Port Talbot Council has recently agreed upon a ‘masterplan’ to enhance the seafront, envisioning a hub for beach enthusiasts, families, and tourists alike. The proposed enhancements include wellness gardens, saunas, hot tubs, expanded food options, a new dunes park, as well as additional parking and changing facilities to elevate the overall beach experience.
As Port Talbot evolves into a premier destination, the new adventure park serves as a symbol of progress and community engagement.
