Nearly 50 jobs at risk as company shuts Welsh base

**Major blow as logistics giant announces plans to close haulage operation in North Wales**

A major player in the logistics sector has announced its decision to shut down operations in north Wales. Palletline Logistics, which acquired Ningbo Wrexham in 2022 and rebranded it to Palletline Wrexham just this past June, has now informed its drivers that the Wrexham base will be closing. Postcodes in north Wales will be redistributed among other members of the Palletline network.

The Facebook group Loris Y Gogs/Trucks Around North Wales said the closure was “another devastating blow for the haulage industry in North Wales” and offered support to those seeking new employment opportunities. The closure is expected to take place later next month, putting 48 jobs at risk. Palletline is currently in the required consultation phase, reports North Wales Live.

A spokesperson for Palletline said: “The Palletline Group has made the decision to close its Palletline Logistics Wrexham operation, reassigning its postcode coverage area to existing network members. The group’s strategy for its Palletline Logistics businesses is to return its operations to member control where appropriate.”

They added: “To that extent, we have collaborated with four existing members to realign delivery areas, ensuring sure full network coverage, whilst supporting their strategic growth plans and eliminating continuing on-going losses at Palletline Wrexham. The Palletline team are working closely with network members in the region to secure alternative employment opportunities where possible for those affected by the closure.”

Trucks Around North Wales commented: “This is absolutely devastating for the lads and girls who have been part of the loyal, hard working team at Palletline and I can’t even begin to imagine how hard this must be for you all. Both of us running Loris Y Gogs will do everything in our power to help find you all work.”

“This is a situation that none of us as drivers want to be in so if you can do anything to help now is the time for us all to pull together as the amazing trucking community we are here in North Wales.”

The closure announcement has sent shockwaves through the industry in the region, with concerns raised about the impact on the local economy. The affected employees are facing uncertain times ahead as they navigate the challenges of finding new job opportunities in an already competitive market.

As the closure date approaches, stakeholders are closely monitoring developments and working towards supporting those impacted by the decision. The resilience and solidarity of the trucking community in North Wales will play a crucial role in helping the affected individuals transition to new career paths.
