NatWest and RBS customers report being locked out of accounts

NatWest and RBS customers have reported issues accessing their accounts as the banking app seems to have gone down. Customers have been complaining about the inability to send payments through the app. DownDetector, an outage tracker, recorded over 1,000 complaints from NatWest users and almost 200 complaints from RBS users early this morning.

Many customers have taken to social media to express their frustration, with some mentioning that they are continuously being logged out of the app when attempting to make transactions. This outage comes on the last working day of the month, a crucial time when many people are likely to have been paid. It remains unclear what is causing the problems and if all NatWest app users are affected.

One user stated, “I can’t make a payment to someone via my banking app. [It] lets me get the whole way through, and then when I go to send the payment it says there’s been an error and my session has timed out.” Another user shared, “Does the app have a bug? I’m trying to pay my bills and it continues to log me out! I’ve tried 20 times this morning!”

In response to the complaints, NatWest acknowledged the issue and mentioned that their technical team is currently investigating the matter. They assured customers that efforts are being made to resolve the problem, although an exact timeframe for the resolution remains unknown. NatWest Group has approximately 19 million customers.

The Mirror has reached out to NatWest for further comment on the situation. Customers are advised to stay updated on the developments as the investigation progresses and the issue is addressed.
