A 21-year-old man from Gaerwen, Wales, had a miraculous escape after his car fell on top of him, causing his heart to stop beating. Jack Thomas was working on his car at home when the jack failed, leaving him trapped underneath. Thanks to the swift actions of his neighbours and nurse Sasha Wyn Evans, who began CPR immediately, Jack’s life was saved. Welsh Ambulance Service medic Ian Parry commended the neighbours for their quick response, stating that their actions were crucial in reviving Jack.
Jack was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital, where he received further treatment and made a remarkable recovery, defying the odds given by doctors. He has since expressed his deep gratitude towards those who came to his rescue, acknowledging that without their help, he wouldn’t be alive today. Reflecting on the incident, Jack mentioned waking up in the hospital days later with no recollection of how he got there and emphasised the importance of the prompt CPR he received for his recovery.
Sasha Wyn Evans, the nurse who performed CPR on Jack, highlighted the significance of CPR training and encouraged more people to learn this life-saving technique. She stressed the importance of being prepared for emergencies and stated that anyone, regardless of their profession, should be equipped with basic first aid skills. Carl Hudson, a critical care practitioner with the Wales Air Ambulance, echoed Sasha’s sentiments and underlined the need for widespread CPR awareness to ensure better outcomes in similar situations.
Jack’s mother, Angharad, expressed her gratitude towards the neighbours and emergency services for their quick response and the care they provided to Jack. She praised the support they received during the challenging time and mentioned the community’s solidarity in helping Jack recover. Following the incident, Jack, his family, and friends have planned to undertake a fundraising challenge to give back to the Wales Air Ambulance and Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team.

The quick thinking and actions of his neighbours and medical professionals played a crucial role in saving his life.
