A mum from Stansted, Essex, has managed to turn her side hustle selling clothes on Vinted into an impressive £11,000 a year “empire” after losing all her possessions in a house fire. Lisa Brown, 49, worked as an interior designer for over a decade before health issues forced her to stop working. Following the devastating house fire, Lisa turned to selling clothes on eBay as a way to make money, and eventually transitioned to Vinted. Through her Vinted sales, she now earns around £800 a month, which has allowed her to enjoy outings with her son and dine out.
Lisa’s journey into online selling began after she lost her interior design job in 2007 due to heart problems. Despite trying to treat her health condition, which she now believes is postural tachycardia syndrome (PoTS), through an ablation procedure, she found herself unable to commit to traditional employment due to fluctuating energy levels. Embracing the flexibility of selling online, Lisa discovered a passion for buying and selling second-hand items, which eventually led to her successful venture on Vinted.
The turning point for Lisa came in 2016 when her family home was engulfed in flames, leading to a total loss of belongings. The house fire not only left her without material possessions but triggered her hoarding tendencies, pushing her to rebuild her wardrobe through shopping. In 2022, Lisa decided to establish herself on Vinted, where she honed her selling strategies and grew her business steadily. By implementing tactics like individually pricing items and engaging potential buyers with tailored offers, Lisa has transformed her Vinted sales into a significant source of income.
Lisa’s top tips for success on Vinted include avoiding bundle sales, sending tailored offers to interested parties, gradually building up the business, showcasing items through multiple photos, and periodically relisting older items. Her dedication and strategic approach have turned her Vinted venture into a thriving enterprise, demonstrating the potential for online platforms to empower individuals in creating sustainable income streams. Through resilience and adaptability, Lisa has not only overcome personal challenges but also found success in the digital marketplace.
